PEOPLE HAVE BEEN PUNISHED
Since 12/4/1998 AND SENT TO THIS
SITE FOR FAILING TO HEED WARNINGS AGAINST HOAXES AND SPAM!
IGNORANCE IS NOT AN
EXCUSE. Every user of the Internet should be familiar with the
typical hoaxes. In general, anything sent to you with the
instructions to forward to as many people as possible is a hoax.
If someone sends you an easily debunkable hoax or rumor, give them
this page. They'll never do it again!
THE
BOULDER PLEDGE
The Boulder Pledge is a
simple part of the solution to the spam
problem, devised by Roger Ebert (the "Thumbs
up!" guy) at the Conference on World Affairs at the
University of Colorado. (He announced this pledge in his
column in Yahoo! Internet Life's December 1996 issue.)
The Boulder
Pledge: "Under no
circumstances will I ever purchase anything offered
to me as the result of an unsolicited email message.
Nor will I forward chain letters, petitions, mass
mailings, or virus warnings to large numbers of
others. This is my contribution to the survival of
the online community."
If you
still think you should be able to "innocently" forward
warnings and put the burden of deleting your message on the recipient
or if you really don't think reading the Urban Legends site,
recommended above, is worthwhile, please click
here.
